The Donetsk region’s investment ambitions reach 44 billion UAH The Donetsk region’s enterprises have prepared investment projects in this sum for the Donetsk Region’s Annual International Investment Summit scheduled for October 29-31, 2008
29 September, Kyiv-Donetsk - the overall capital-intensity of these investment projects developed by Donetsk’s enterprises and organizations for foreign and national investors, amounted to 44 billion UAH. Projects are expected to be presented to 300 investors from 20 countries in the framework of the Donetsk Region’s Annual International Investment Summit scheduled for October 29-31, 2008. Organizers feel that this event will open up interesting dialogue in B2B format in regard to not only regional projects, but also those of national importance. Representatives from the Austrian, British, Polish, French, and Swedish embassies in Ukraine have already confirmed their participation in the event, in addition to groups of foreign participants from Austria, Germany, Poland, Russia, the USA, France, and the Czech Republic. The Warsaw stock exchange announced its support of the Summit by sponsoring the ‘Innovations and Energy-saving Technologies’ conference. The most capital-intensive projects amounting to approximately 32.59 billion UAH, are within the real estate and infrastructure sphere: tourism, transport, commercial, social and housing, including projects connected to preparations for Euro-2012. According to Deloitte representatives – organizers of this particular section of the Summit – special attention will be paid to the infrastructure segment, particularily, the creation of a modern Slavyansk-Donetsk highway for high-speed transport to route E-40 and the city of Kharkiv, construction of new cargo and passenger terminals at the airport in Kramatorsk, as well as a motor terminal in the city of Novoazovske, and reconstruction of the railway station “Donetsk”, etc. The most promising Investment projects are the construction of a new neighbourhood and bus station in the city of Donetsk, the construction of recreational facilities in the city of Sviatohorsk and the Sea of Azov, a number of shopping and leisure, office and logistics facilities in the cities of that area as well. “In considering the proposals we were guided by criteria like the profoundness of the development of business plans, and the attractiveness of the very concept of the project to potential investors, knowing its expectations and the logic of the decision-making. What helps us with this is our extensive experience in planning and structuring investment projects and the development of investment banking and financial consulting”, - commented A. Stepanov, partner«Deloitte». Proposals totaling 7.5 billion UAH have been prepared for a presentation on the real sector economy, of which a majority relates to industrial projects totaling 3.5 billion UAH, and projects in the field of housing and communal services at 2.5 billion UAH. Projects within the agricultural sphere will also be considered in this category. According to A.I.Hohotov, vice-president of the Donetsk Regional State Administration, realization of the prepared projects will create about 18,500 new jobs and will provide supplementary revenue on taxes and dues for the State budget at approximately 2 billion UAH. and 550 million UAH for the local budget. “The real sector is an instrument that promotes economic development itself. The Donetsk region possesses a unique resource base, technical and specialist potential, and an advanced market infrastructure. Donetsk has all the necessary conditions to initiate large scale projects. We decided to combine all the ideas ready for implementation, and assist in presenting them to investors in their language of indexes,”- said A.Kredisov, managing partner of “Ernst and Young”, which organized the segment on “Investments into the Real Sector of Donbass”. Across the district’s territory, big international enterprises such as “Lafarge”, “Siemens” and “Kargil” have already been working within the sphere of heavy industry, production of building materials and the agricultural complex. Representatives of these companies will share their experience of conducting business in the region with summit participants. The Donbass’ innovative capacity of is commended by regional authorities, as well as the academic and business community of the region. It was here in 2002, that the «program of scientific and technological development of the Donetsk region up to 2020» was designed. It has become the basis for many innovative projects submitted to participate in the Investment Summit in the section «Innovation and energy saving technologies», organized by «Altera Finance». The projects are represented at a total value of over 4 billion UAH in three areas: innovation in industry and energy, new technologies in medicine and environmental protection. “Our 8-years of experience in the region in the fields of investment, asset management and investment banking suggests that Donbass must be one of the key strategic objectives for international investors in Ukraine. At the same time, the future of the region - is innovation”, - declares M. Zhernov, Head of the Board of Directors for the investment group «Altera Finance. “There is significant potential use of alternative and renewable energy sources in Donbass: coal mine gas, methane, wind energy, solar energy, and biomass. This is very relevant to the district with the most powerful electricity system, which produces 15% of all of the electricity produced in Ukraine, including up to 40% of the energy being generated by thermal power plants”. Among the innovative projects, particular attention will be paid to contemporary environmental and energy-efficient technology for the system of housing projects in the field of nanotechnology and biotechnology. In particular, according to experts at «Altera Finance», among prospective projects is the production of ceramic products based on synthesized nanopowders to be introduced by the industrial and social sectors, the production of thermo-expanding graphite, the development of a thermograph for the early detection of breast cancer at home and others.
